External shoe compartment is absurdly convenient since it doesn’t take away from the capacity of the rest of the bag. Just an idea of the capabilities of this bag. I take it to work and then straight to the gym. At its absolute fullest (and it does require some rolling and stuff of clothes to save space) this bag has fit a set of gym clothes, work clothes, hoodie/sweatpants, long pvc jump rope, lifting straps, wallet/keys/phone/glasses, tablet, resistance bands, mini theragun, TENS unit, airpods, wrist wraps, boxing gloves, 32oz water bottle, blender bottle, and a size 12 pair of fairly bulky trainers. It was able to hold all of this without looking ridiculously boxy, but once again, this does require some careful packing if you want to fit ALL of that stuff. On a day when I don’t carry boxing gloves - there is plenty of room to spare for other items like over-ear headphones or maybe a semi flexible lifting belt. A lifting belt would also likely hold nicely in one of the water bottle pockets. I used to have a giant half gallon water bottle that I was able to stretch into a water bottle pocket but I don’t recommend doing this as it may have stretched the elastic band that helps lock the bottle in place.
